Guest Artist, Trumpet
Born in Concord, Paul Costanzo began his musical career at the
age of nine when he began the study of the trumpet. His early
teachers included Natalo Paella, Roger Voisin, and Armando
Ghitalla of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In High School he won
the first trumpet position in the International Youth Orchestra
conducted by Leopold Stokowski.
Costanzo was a scholarship student at Julliard where he
completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music. Mr.
Costanzo has been an active free-lance musician in New York and
Boston where his performances have ranged from the Metropolitan
Opera Orchestra to Broadway shows.
Among his other interests are the martial arts, in which he
holds the rank of 3rd degree black belt in Goshin
Jui-Jitso. He has been an instructor to several of Hollywood’s
top bodyguards and stuntmen, and has worked as an advisor on
feature films.
Mr. Costanzo first performed with the band during the 1989
series at Fruitlands Museum, and he returned with the band for
the 1990 season. At that time Mr. Costanzo performed the premiere
performance of William M. Toland’s arrangement of
Harry James Concerto for Trumpet.
