Guest Artist, Tuba
Robert Searle received his Bachelor of Music degree from Boston University’s School of Music in 1986. While
studying at Boston University, Mr. Searle distinguished himself
as the only tuba player to have won the University’s presitigious
Concerto-Aria Competition. Mr. Searle was tuba soloist with the
United States Marine Band in Washington, D. C., from 1980-1984.
During his four years in the nation’s capitol, Mr. Searle played
with the National Symphony and performed Edward Gregson’s Tuba
Concerto (also featured at his Concord Band performance) with the
National Brass Band at the British Embassy.
Since returning to Boston in 1984, Mr. Searle has been one of
Boston’s busiest free-lance tuba players. He performs regularly
with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, the Opera
Company of Boston, the Harvard Chamber Orchestra, the Portland
(Maine) Symphony, and the Springfield Symphony. Mr. Searle
studied with Sam Pilatian of the Empire Brass Quintet and Chester
Sc hmitz, principal tuba with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
