André Jutras, composer
A Barrie North Celebration was composed by French-Canadian composer,
André Jutras in 1993.
The work was commissioned by the Barrie North Collegiate Band Parents
Association to celebrate the 20th anniversary of music at Barrie North
in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
After a brilliant fanfare type opening, the piece continues with an extended
lyrical melody stated by the woodwinds followed by a section full of rhythms
and percussion interjections.
The slow middle section features lovely solos for the piccolo and trumpet.
The piece then returns to the exciting music of the opening section building
to a tremendous climax.
In recent years, André Jutras has become increasingly recognized as one of
Canada’s leading composers and arrangers of band music.
