(1937)
William Walton, composer
Crown Imperial March, commissioned for the coronation of King
George VI, was first performed at the coronation ceremony in 1937.
The enormous vitality of the music finds ample breadth of sound in this
brilliant coronation march.
The first section has a quiet but rhythmic opening which gradually builds
to a brilliant climax.
This gives way to a broad and stately melody, which is typically English
in majestic sonority.
