David Holsinger, composer
Havendance, by David Holsinger, is an exciting piece full of rhythmic
energy and involving the extensive use of shifting meters.
Holsinger utilizes a wide range of colorful percussion instruments throughout
this work.
This is a single movement piece that doesn’t let up in energy or excitement
from the beginning to the end.
Holsinger named this work after his daughter, Haven, who, as a young child,
was constantly dancing around the house.
David Holsinger is one of the most prolific composers of concert band music
in the country today.
This work, along with the beautiful On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss,
is one of Holsinger’s most performed works.
