Concord Band commission
(2006)
Elliot Del Borgo, composer
The Concord Band is proud to present the world premier of Elliot Del
Borgo’s newest work for symphonic band, Israeli Folk Suite,
in tonight’s concert, conducted by the composer.
This single-movement work has three distinct and contrasting sections, each
based on an Israeli song.
Following a quiet introduction that gradually builds in intensity, the first
song, Hanukah Song, is introduced by the flute section.
This theme then becomes the basis for the exciting opening section of this
suite.
The contrasting middle section is a slow and lush setting of the song
Hatikvah, first stated quietly by the trumpets and gradually building
to involve all of the resources of the band.
The final section is based upon the Israeli song Hava Nagilah.
Del Borgo creatively uses this well known song as the thematic basis for
bringing this composition to an exciting and energetic conclusion.
The Concord Band wishes to thank Elliot and Bette Finkelstein for
commissioning this work.
