Charles Belsterling, composer
March of the Steel Men was composed by Charles Belsterling, vice
president of U.S. Steel Corporation from 1932 to 1942.
For more than fifty years, band members have performed this march and
wondered about its composer.
Belsterling was a successful lawyer, a steel industry executive, and a lover
of bands and band music.
Although he composed only one march for band, the musicality of this work
indicates a strong possibility of inherited musical ability.
