Satchmo
Louis Armstrong
Appropriately entitled Satchmo, this arrangement is a musical tribute to
Louis Armstrong, one of the greatest musicians jazz ever produced. He was the
consummate entertainer, offering a personality and charm that captivated
millions of people throughout the world. The arrangement begins with a short
chorale treatment of When the Saints Go Marching In, followed by a drum
solo introduction to Struttin' With Some Barbecue. A short harmonic
transition leads to Sleepy Time Down South. A Dixie combo is featured in
Cornet Chop Suey. The arrangement closes with a rousing version of
When the Saints Go Marching In ending with an instrumental "Oh Yeah!"
Recorded 1993/4/3, William Toland conducting.
